Join the National Museum of African Art for Ato Malinda’s talk “Binary Origins and Binary Dissipations: African Objects and a Definition of Queerness.” A Kenyan-born multimedia artist, Malinda’s work focuses on the hybrid nature of African identity. She will discuss her artistic practice, the representation of queerness in Nairobi, Kenya, and her recent research as a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellow.
Currently an artist-in-residence at the National Museum of African Art, Malinda’s video On fait ensemble (We Do Together) is on view as part of the museum’s exhibition The Divine Comedy: Heaven, Purgatory and Hell Revisited by Contemporary African Artists.
