Celebrate the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture African Art with a special screening of Am I: Too African to be American or Too American to be African? (Ghana/Sierra Leone/USA, 2015, 43 min., English) This award-winning documentary explores the complex identity formations of young African women living in the United States and West Africa who identify as bicultural, examining race, complexion, gender, heritage, and more.
Following the screening, join us for a discussion with film director Nadia Sasso; moderator Msia Kibona Clark, assistant professor of African Studies at Howard University; and other members of the cast.
Special guest Laolu will share his story from a male perspective and demonstrate his body art.
