Screening and Discussion of Footprints of Pan Africanism

Join the National Museum of African Art for a screening of Footprints of Pan Africanism (dir. Shirikiana Aina, 2018, USA, 96 min., English). In this new documentary, follow the lives of African Americans who emigrated Ghana following Kwame Nkrumah’s call to help rebuild the newly independent country and to create a liberated Pan-African territory. Explore the powerful bonds created between Africans on the continent and in the diaspora to recover from the impact of slavery and colonialism.

Director, writer, and producer Shirikiana Aina will introduce the film, followed by a panel discussion featuring Nataki Kambon, CEO of Let’s Buy Black 365, Jameelah Morris, anthropology Ph.D. candidate at Stanford University, and moderator Maurice Carney, executive director of Friends of the Congo. Docent tours of the museum’s exhibition Visionary: Viewpoints on Africa’s Art will round out the afternoon.

Part of a regular Heritage Talk series, this screening and discussion allows the museum to hear directly from one of its most important audiences: D.C.’s local African diaspora community. Make your voice heard!
