Maïmouna Guerresi

Date: born 1951, Italy
Born in Italy, Maïmouna Guerresi moved to Dakar and converted to Sufi Islam in 1991. She now holds a dual passport. A multimedia artist working with photography, sculpture, video, and installation, Guerresi’s work has been extensively exhibited in solo and group shows across Europe, Africa, the United States, Asia, and the Middle East. She was included in the Venice Biennale in 1982, 1986, and 2011, as well as the 1987 dOCUMENTA in Kassel, Germany. Her work has also been featured in such major exhibitions as, Islamic Art Now, Part? II: Contemporary Art from the Middle East (2016), Re-Signification ( 2015), and ARS 11 ( 2011). Her work is included in private and public collections worldwide, including The Boghossian Foundation, Belgium; Museo d'arte Contemporanea Palazzo della Ragione, Italy; European Investment Bank, Luxembourg; Tasveer Foundation, India; Minneapolis Institute of Art; and LACMA.
