I Think, Therefore I AM: An Intensive Creative Writing Workshop Focused On Telling Your Own Story

Discover the art and power of storytelling with acclaimed novelist, publisher, and performer Yamkela TYWAKADI in an intensive 3-day writing workshop at the National Museum of African Art. Through dialogue, close looking and a series of writing exercises, participants will draw inspiration from artworks in our groundbreaking exhibition, I Am … Contemporary Women Artists of Africa, as they produce their own personal narrative and literary masterpiece.

About the Instructor:
Yamkela Tywakadi has published 15 books, many of them in indigenous South African languages. She is currently working on a non-fiction study of women who helped to build modern South Africa in business, politics, academia, and the arts. Tywakadi founded a mobile app company and previously served as head of trade publishing at Sifiso Publishers. She is on the Mail & Guardian’s list of 200 Young South African Leaders for 2019 and a current fellow of the prestigious International Writing Program at the University of IOWA.

Participants are asked to bring their own writing materials and to remain for the full duration of the program. Space is limited. Lunch is provided.
