Olowe's Unique Carving Style

Olowe honored the stylistic canon and conventions that prevailed among Ekiti-Yoruba artists. Like most creative artists of any culture, however, Olowe developed his own personal style. As seen in the palace door and the bowl with figures, Olowe's sculptures are characterized by large-scale, elongated, and often angular forms, the illusion of movement, exceedingly high relief, polychromy, and richly textured surfaces.
