The National Museum of African Art offers professional development workshops and curricular consultations for elementary through high school teachers.

"Play area" of online activities produced for various exhibitions. These include drawing and design activities, artist interviews, and much more.

Tours and Outreach

Tours are based on objects and themes reflected in the museum's collections and exhibitions. Museum representatives also travel to classrooms, community groups or senior centers to introduce audiences to African art.

The NMAFA Performing arts programs bring to life the art and cultures of Africa. Since the summer of 2007 performing arts programs have increased and have featured local and African artists of dance, music, and spoken word.

The NMAFA Education Department also brings to life the art and cultures of Africa through workshops. These programs feature local and African artists, writers and educators. Please enjoy some of the workshop highlights through these photos and video.

Teacher Resources

Working from the collection, the museum has many kinds of resources that it makes available. These include teacher workshops, videos for loan as well as online curriculum you can use in your classroom.
