Teen Media Literacy Workshop
2010 Call for Applications

The mission and goals of the National Museum of African Art's (NMAfA) education department flow from the Smithsonian's mission to increase and diffuse knowledge; in particular, the Smithsonian's strategic goal to increase public engagement by engaging and inspiring diverse audiences in understanding art, history and culture. The goal of NMAfA's education department is to inspire all audiences in a lifelong exploration of the arts and, consequently, the culture of Africa. Through this important educational mandate, NMAfA's programs target visitors of all ages, integrating a variety of teaching and learning techniques--hands-on workshops, performing arts, teacher training workshops, storytelling, lectures and interactive sites--within exhibitions. The education department is also a source of curriculum materials on Africa and African art for local schools.
