As a part of the Africa in Reel Time series, join the National Museum of African Art for a screening of Water Drums (dir. Clarissa Duque, 2009, Venezuela and Cameroon, 75 min., Spanish with English subtitles). This documentary traces the musical art of water drumming across continents, stretching from Africa to Venezuela. Screened as a compliment the museum’s exhibition Currents, this lively and rhythmic film tells the history of Afro-Venezuelans and the strength of the African roots still apparent in Venezualan music.
