Administrative Assistant (Contractor),
The Administrative Assistant (Contractor) shall provide professional, technical, non-personal administrative services to the Project Coordinator and Project Lead for the decolonization project “African Museology,” and for the Collections Care team. The Contractor will assist in the coordination of virtual and on-site meetings, and in the planning and carry-out of the activities of the African Museology Project with NMAfA, SI and other international collaborators under the direction of the Project’s Principal Investigator (PI).

Supervisory Museum Specialist (General)
The Supervisory Museum Specialist serves as Head Registrar within the Registration Department of NMAFA. The Registration Department is responsible for collection management activities in the areas of accessioning, digital photography, incoming and outgoing loans, object movement, storage, packing and shipping, and care and handling of objects in the Museum’s custody, as well as the ethical and legal documentation issues associated with these activities.

Contractor-Curator
The Contractor-Curator shall provide technical, professional, non-personal services responsible for proposing and developing original, compelling research, exhibitions, and publications as well as advising on acquisitions of new collections.
The Contractor-Curator’s major duties will focus on developing innovative and original ways to frame, display and create engagement with various forms of African art and creativity including but not limited to traditional, modern, and contemporary visual and plastic art, design, fashion, culinary arts, sonic arts, digital arts and multi-disciplinary approaches.
He/she/they will play a leading role in the identification, acquisition, scholarly research, exhibition, and interpretation of works of art and will support the preservation and documentation activities of conservation and registration departments.

The Smithsonian Institution is a diverse museum and research complex dedicated to the increase and diffusion of knowledge. The National Museum of African Art (NMAfA) is a leading research and reference center for the visual arts of Africa. The Registration Department is responsible for collection management activities in the areas of accessioning, incoming and outgoing loans, object movement, storage, packing and shipping, and care and handling of objects in the Museum’s custody, as well as the ethical and legal documentation issues associated with these activities. The contractor serves as the Head Registrar.
