Teaching Africa Day is an interactive and child-friendly event raising children and youth’s awareness about Africa. This year’s theme highlights The Year of Return: Diaspora Youth. Our programming focus is on individuals of greatness of the African Diaspora, inspired by our exhibition – Heroes: Principles of African Greatness.
Dunbar High School
Dunbar high school located in the DMV area has the mission to deepen students’ understanding of the beauty and resilience of the black diaspora while nurturing, cultivating and empowering students to be critical thinkers through reading, writing, discourse and creative expression. The humanities-bases courses take students on a journey through Africa’s rich past, the Transatlantic Slave Trade and present day in order to forge the future.
Nation House
Nation House, located in the DMV is one of the oldest independent Afrikan centered schools in the United States and in the DC metropolitan area serving the specific needs of children of Afrikan heritage from pre-school to twelfth grade. Today, NationHouse continues to serve families in the development and enculturation of responsible youth who are committed to their families, their community and their Afrikan culture/heritage.
The Francodus Art Foundation (FAF)
Mission Statement: The Francodus Art Foundation (FAF), was founded in 2005 by Mr. Francis Umendu Odupute as an Art and culture promotion organization which deploy art and media to promote African Art and artists address human and societal issues and foster sustainable development in a global context.
Formerly operating as a grassroots artists group with the popular name FICDATA (Francodus International Communications Development Advocacy Through Art), the organization’s mission is to partner locally, nationally, regionally and internationally to develop and properly promote African Art, culture and tourism potentials in a way that transforms Africa’s creative economy.
